Was Going to Write About Boxing and Wing Tsun But...

A fellow WT colleague of mine (you can find his blog here) sent me some very interesting links regarding the recent "challenge" match between the very well known Sifu Gary Lam and Simon Benozzo from "Miko Kung Fu".

There is a video of the incident here.

So what are your thoughts? My comments to follow.

Until then.

I'm not really sure what to make of it, I think if we ignore the first exchange in the video Sifu Gary Lam is indeed the better Chi Sao player however he gets caught out pretty definitively in the first pass.
After that he increases his speed and aggression but never regains his composure it seem almost as though he's reacting from his ego. In my experience Chi Sao is at the best of time organized chaos with only the trained eye able to truly appreciate it however the best chi sao exchanges I've seen are between opponents who are able to use there structures to make it look like they have all the time in the world and create space where there was none. In western boxing terms this chi sao exchange looked more like a brawl than a cultured exchange between two technically gifted boxers.

I think the most honest thing I can say about this exchange is that, I didn't see much in it I'd like to emulate.
